You can get a secure private connection to the internet, block ads, and use a search engine that does not record what you do with a browser that is privacy-friendly with appropriate settings.

Security Planner by the Citizen Lab generates a set of recommendations to improve privacy and security. This is a very easy to use application where you answer three questions that return a recommended set of actions and links to additional information.

Privacy Rights Clearinghouse publishes a set of online guides about how to protect your privacy.

The Tactical Technology Collective publishes a website, Me And My Shadow, dedicated to helping you “take control of your data.”
